Items from the service of Staff Sergeant Jack M. Schwartz, who was a member of the Army Pictorial Service and assigned to the 3113rd Signal Service Battalion in the European Theater of Operations. Born in 1919 in New Jersey, Schwartz spent the majority of his childhood and early adulthood in Brooklyn, New York. On 5 November 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army and was called to active duty by early 1943. By 1944, Schwartz was in England and assigned to the 3113rd Signal Service Battalion. He was in London on D-Day, but eventually made his was to Germany in late 1944. He then returned to London and celebrated VE-Day. Schwartz returned to the United States in mid-1945 and moved to New Jersey after he was honorably discharged. The collection includes a Nazi flag from Aachen, cartoons, booklets, souvenir maps, and photographs, most of which depict VE-Day in London. See collection 2007.116 for more items from Jack Schwartz.
