Reverend Harold Rexford Megill was born on 7 August 1896 in Cherryvale, Kansas. He attended Bonebrake Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio and had served as Minister of United Brethren Church. He was taking special training in Rural Life Service at Northwestern University when he was called into US Army service as a Chaplain on 1 July 1942. He was given the rank of Captain and served 37 months in the ETO as a Protestant Chaplain. Megill served with the 495th Anti-Aircraft Battalion in Iceland and the 29th Infantry Regiment in Iceland, England, France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, and Germany. He separated from the US Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 20 January 1946. Reverend Megill passed away on 20 December 1987 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Collection includes photographs, letters, discharge papers, insigina, dog tag, and other items from the service of Chaplain Harold R. Megill, 495th Anti-Aircraft Battalion and 29th Infantry Regiment, ETO.The collection contains over fifty photographs, many taken during Megill's service at Camp MacArthur, Iceland as well as correspondence in which Chaplain Megill counseled soldiers and their families.
