"File No. 57540 March 7, 1944 Christmas greeting to the Jap Heavy guns of a U.S. cruiser light up the dark waters of the Pacific as the ship sends 'Christmas greetings' to Japs [Japanese] entrenched on Buka Island, north of Bougainville, on December 23, 1943. In the foreground the superstructure and two lookouts of a sister ship stand out darkly." 7 March 1944

The Charles Ives Collection consists of 719 photographs from the Pacific Theater of WWII. Many of the photographs were taken between 1944 and 1945. Mr. Ives inherited the photographs from a friend from Marblehead, Massachusetts who served as an aviator in the Army Air Corps and discharged as a Major in 1945.
