"23 July 44. Mark. L to R, T/4 Vernon F. Roberts and T/4 Mel Allen. Sgt. Roberts now with Co A, Academic Regt. at Ft. Benning, Ga., but formerly with Hq. Co., 30th Inf. which went through the invasion of Africa, Sicily, Italy and Anzio. He received the Purple Heart at Sicily. Sgt. Roberts was a switch board chief.
