'File Number: 238.964 August 22, 1944 Jap planes fail to hit targets during raid off Guam-White splash in the blue Pacific mark a miss by a bomb dropped from a Jap [Japanese] plane during an aerial attack on a U. S. Navy aircraft off Guam. The action occurred during the long series of Navy raids which preceded the invasion of Guam on July 20, 1944. The smoke mantling the carrier is from anti-aircraft fire.' 20 July 1944

The Charles Ives Collection consists of 719 photographs from the Pacific Theater of WWII. Many of the photographs were taken between 1944 and 1945. Mr. Ives inherited the photographs from a friend from Marblehead, Massachusetts who served as an aviator in the Army Air Corps and discharged as a Major in 1945.
