'File Number: 59457 August 2, 1944 D-Day on Guam Rising to a crescendo as landing assaults are launched, the serial and surface bombardment of Guam mantles the Jap stronghold in smoke and flame. In the center of this picture a phosphorus shell explodes in a typical burst of burning fog, while other types of shells churn up the shore. D-Day for Guam fell on July 20, 1944.' 20 July 1944

The Charles Ives Collection consists of 719 photographs from the Pacific Theater of WWII. Many of the photographs were taken between 1944 and 1945. Mr. Ives inherited the photographs from a friend from Marblehead, Massachusetts who served as an aviator in the Army Air Corps and discharged as a Major in 1945.
