36.Photograph. Corpse and skull of Italian woman killed by German soldiers. '16 Dec 44. 5/MM-44-32430. Fifth Army, L'America Area, Italy. This old Italian woman, living in a cave was evidently bringing a bundle of faggots for her fire when the senseless fury of German S.S. vengeance overtook her. She was shot down in cold blood in reprisal for partisan activity. Fully a score of men, women and children whose bodies were found in a radius of 50 yards. Photo by Baker. 3131 Signal Service Co.'
