Items from the service of Sergeant Dorothy Roddy Colemere, who served as the personal assistant to General Carl Spaatz. Colemere was born on 7 October 1921 in Flint, Texas. She graduated from Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas and then joined the Women's Army Corps in 1943. While working under General Spaatz in Europe, Colemere served as a war room stenographer and was privy to top secret Allied plans as they were developed. She also knew about the Allies breaking Enigma, a difficult German code. During her service, Colemere received the Bronze Star and four other medals. She met her husband, Sergeant Hollis E. Colemere, during the war as he also served under General Spaatz. They were married in Paris, France at the end of the war in Europe. After the war, Dorothy and Hollis returned to San Antonio, Texas, where they raised four children and ran a successful business. This collection consists of photographs; military correspondence; a personnel file; ephemera from Colemere's travels domestically and in Europe; a flight jacket; and Colemere's Bronze Star medal. Wedding photography, the Colemeres' wedding certificate, and paperwork granting the couple permission to marry are also included.
