Official Caption: "Rome, 7/19/45--Festival time in Venice--On Saturday night in mid-July Venetians celebrated the Festa Del Redentore (Feast of the Redeemer) as they have done yearly since the end of a great plague in the 16th century, a celebration interrupted only by the present war. American soldiers (center) joined in the festivities which included fireworks, decorated floats and parades of gondolas. The celebration was curtailed somewhat because the Germans had taken away many of the big barges.--OWI staff photo approved by appropriate military authority--Serviced by Rome OWI (Full). 7145.Venice, Italy. 1945
