Official Caption: "Believing that several layers of light clothing are warmer than one bulky uniform, the U.S. Quartermaster Corps issues specially designed uniforms for U.S. Army Nurses serving abroad in cold climates. For the second layer they wear wind-resistant, water-repellent olive drab sateen trousers and field jackets, and four-buckle Arctic overshoes, all of which fit over a wool flannel liner. The helmet fits over a knitted olive drab visored cap which pulls snugly over the ears. Knitted gloves are supplemented by leather gloves to keep out rain and snow. FA Photo."
