Behind General MacArthur are U.S. Lieutenant General Jonathan Wainwright (left), hero of Bataan and Corregidor who was found in a Japanese prisoner of war camp Aug. 20, 1945, and British Lieutenant General Arthur E. Percival, who was forced to surrender Singapore to the Japanese. Both were liberated from the Japanese prison camp at Sian, Manchuria, by U.S. Paratroops and Soviet forces.
