The general layout of the new cooperative tunnel can be seen in this cutaway drawing. The decompression sphere, which can be closed off from the rest of the tunnel, is left center. The two power units, one 10,000 horsepower and one 2,000, are at lower right. Each 16 blade fan unit (center right) can be operated separately or in tandem through coupling. The control room is on a mezzanine (left) above the second floor. On the first floor, not visible in the drawing, are engineering offices, a drafting room, photographic library, technical library, stockroom, a large vault, and offices. Dr. Clark B.
