Items from the service of Earl Faye or Fay (as Earl was called) Foote, who was from Fremont, Nebraska. Foote was captured in the Philippines as part of the 263rd Quartermaster Detachment stationed at Nichols Field, Rizal, Philippines in 1941. He was stationed there since before America joined the war. Earl enlisted on 4 December 1939 at Fort Crook, Nebraska. He died 5 July 1942 (though some reports have DOD listed as 9 July 1943) at Cabanatuan Camp #1, from amoebic dysentery, after participating in the Bataan Death march. An excerpt from his casualty report: "Private First Class Earl F. Foote (ASN: 06936214), Quartermaster Corps, was reported missing in action as of 7 May 1942 in the Philippines Islands following the surrender of Corregidor and was continued in that status as of 7 May 1943…He is now carried on records of the Casualty Branch as 'died' of illness 9 July 1943 in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in the Philippine Islands."
