A transport attack ship at port, likely in Honolulu, Hawaii, 1941
Photograph. The USAT Republic, later the USS Republic (AP-33), at port. By 1939, when Earl F. Foote was in the Philippines (per dates on other photographs from his service), the Republic had a regular New York-Honolulu run; this run lasted until June 1941. So it is probable that this photograph was taken when Foote arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii for basic training before or during 1939. Personal caption: "The boat I enjoyed. I had it enlarged 8"X10" for my album. I had just pulled in, you'll notice the moss on the anchor. About the biggest transport they have. I believe it's the second largest." And: "1941." Hawaii. 1941
