Official Caption: "(series of four) Rome, 6/2/45--Venice art comes out of hiding places--Venice is bringing out her famous works of art from their wartime hiding places. Italian authorities, with cooperation of the Allied military government, rapidly are demolishing the protective coverings that had been built to safeguard great monuments from damage. St. Mark’s Cathedral has emerged almost completely from its covering of scaffolds, brick and sandbags. The Allied Commission has been directing the removal of the city's great bronze art works from their hiding place in the ducal palace cellar and setting them up in the palace courtyard as an exhibit for visiting troops. Later the bronze pieces will be restored to their prewar places.--AC photo--Serviced by Rome OWI full.
