Official Caption: "(Series of 3) Rome, 7/7/45--Rice growing in Italy--The rice season is beginning again in fertile fields of North Italy, irrigated by canals from the Po River and its tributaries. Transplanting is well underway by 25,000 migrant workers and although the acreage is smaller this year than normally and fertilizer is scarce, the crop will be an [important] supplementary food supply for Italy. The Allied Military Government has [facilitated] planting by aiding in the transportation of workers, in supplying bags, twine [illegible] fertilizer. AMG [Allied Military Government] will also assist in the harvesting and marketing of the rice [illegible]--OWI Staff photos approved by appropriate military authority.--Serviced by [illegible] OWI (M List Out).
