Veneer Lathe at the Higgins Plywood Plant, Michoud, Louisiana
Photograph. Photograph of a veneer lathe at the Higgins Plywood Plant, Michoud, Louisiana. Also known as the veneer mill, the Higgins Industries Plywood Plant was located on the old Michoud plantation property [previously spelled Michaud] next to the massive Higgins Michoud facility in New Orleans east. This image shows the part of the lathe that rotates a massive log [a blank is visible in the lower left hand of the image] and slices a thin layer off in a long sheet for manufacturing plywood. The sliced layer progresses down a long run until it reaches a cutter midway down the room. A Higgins Industries official photo stamp is on the back of the photograph.
