Description:

African American serviceman McKenny with mother and baby which he delivered. "3 Dec. 44. 5/MM-44-31076. Fifth Army, Seravezza Area, Italy. T/4 George McKenny with mother and baby which he delivered. A former mortician with the Moreland Funeral Home, Atlanta, Ga.[Georgia], McKenny admits that 'this delivery was a little out of my line.' The delivery took place virtually on the front lines as the nearest German OP is less than a mile away. McKenny, a medic of the 371st Medical Detachment, 92nd Division is quite pleased that the mother named the child after him. The child's father was taken away by the Germans for labor. Photo by Bull. 196th Signal Photo Co." Seravezza Area, Italy. 3 December 1944
