552.Photograph 'C.G. 48285 February, 1945 Sea burial for Marine killed on Iwo Jima The flag-draped body of a U. S. Marine, killed during the invasion of Iwo Jima, is buried in the waters off the shore of the invasion island, from the deck of a Coast Guard-manned attack transport. The Marine guard, still in battle gear, stands at 'parade rest' during the burial which took place just as night fell.' February 1945

The Charles Ives Collection consists of 719 photographs from the Pacific Theater of WWII. Many of the photographs were taken between 1944 and 1945. Mr. Ives inherited the photographs from a friend from Marblehead, Massachusetts who served as an aviator in the Army Air Corps and discharged as a Major in 1945.
