Gift of Melissa Bourne, from the Collection of the National WWII Museum
Description:

Three North African children sitting on rock wall in front of building in North Africa, August, 1943. 'Our convoy came thru the straights of Gilbrator 8/20/43 and we landed at Oran. The Sicily battle was on and we tented high above the port of Oran overlooking the Sea. Water was bad, highly chlorinated and hot and dysentery was effecting [sic] many. My weight fell from 125 to 85 lbs in ten days and we got ready for the landing in Naples, Italy 9-5-43.' 'Because I was sick for most of the time we were in Africa only the small pictures are the ones I was able to take.'North Africa. August 1943
