Scale model of a planned housing community, New York, June 1945

Description:

Photograph. Scale model of townhouses and their backyards. Official Caption: "(Series of three) Rome, 6/29/45--Model of American House--This small-scale model of newly-designed American houses on exhibit at the museum of modern art in New York City shows what can be done for row houses. They are shallow and wide, with lots of glass and cross-ventilation. Projecting party walls and a staggered building line define each house as a separate unit, and varied colors and textures give each house its own special character. The living room extends from front to back, so the house can face either north or south, . .Wide world photo through Rome OWI. Approved by appropriate military authority (List A Out). 6936-A."”New York, New York. 29 June 1945
