1839. '3-22-44. J. P. Johnson. Noon chow, and men of Battery C, 609th F.A., 71st L. Div. have drawn C Rations from field kitchen dug into rearward slope of ridge east of Hill 3509 below firebreak trail and enjoy a monotonous but filling meal. Rations are pooled and packed in by mule as well as water which is extremely scarce. Even with amount of supplies being hauled in, mules are overworked. HLMR Mtn. Man. 168-9-44-588.'
