Official Caption: "Rome, 5/25/45--Greenbelt: Typical planned community in the U.S--The gasoline station, as well as the stores and theater at Greenbelt, were leased to the non-profit Consumer Distribution Corporation. During the first years of occupancy, this organization ran the gasoline station, and other businesses, and set aside all profits. In January, 1940, after a period of organization, the management and the profits were placed in the hands of a cooperative formed by the town's citizens. Greenbelt has a city manager type of local government. All tenants are eligible to become voters. They elect a council of five members which appoints, and has the power to remove a city manager who is charged with the execution of the policies established by the council.-FFG Photo.
