Items from the service of Vernon W. Layton, who was born in Millsboro, Delaware on 30 June 1918. Layton enlisted in the US Army on 27 January 1941 and was assigned to the 593rd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment. After training in Florida and California, Layton was shipped to the Pacific Theatre and was stationed on Papua New Guinea and Borneo. Collection consists of 99 photographs. Many are official photographs from the Military History Section (S.D.9) and show Australian and American troops on Borneo in 1945.
