Kenneth W. Showers was born on 26 March 1912 in Chicago, Illinois and at age 30 enlisted in the United States Army on 12 September 1942 in Chicago. Showers arrived in Europe in August of 1944 and was assigned to the 22nd Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division until his return to the United States in July of 1945. During his time in service he received a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged at Camp Butner, North Carolina on 2 November 1945 having attained the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. Mr. Showers passed away on 30 November 1990. The collection contains nearly 150 photographs and over 400 archival items relevant to Showers' service.
