A German Naval and a German Army officer in the custody of American officers. Official caption: "ETO HQ 44 5963 Petrony 26 June. Credit...Signal Corps Foto. Surrender! Lt. Gen. Dietrick (sic) von Schlieben [Generalmajor Johann Anton Dietrich von Schlieben, 1893-1984], commander of Hitler's 'Last Man' Army [Volkssturm] which fell at Cherbourg (helmet, on right) and [Konteradmiral] Admiral Hennecke, Chief of German Naval Operations at Cherbourg (in naval hat) as they were escorted to American Army headquarters after the fall of the vital French port." Censored by SHAEF Field Press Censor on 27 June 1944; passed for publication without censorship restrictions by Army Expeditionary Forces Field Press Censor on 14 May 1945.
