472.Photograph. 'File No: 59431 June 15, 1944 Little French Girl Emerges from Her Hovel The shock of the lightning invasion and having her picture made by a U. S. Navy photographer were too much for the little French girl. She had to be persuaded to leave her thatch home to greet the strangers. The pile of twigs and branches was her home.' 15 June 1944

The Charles Ives Collection consists of 719 photographs from the Pacific Theater of WWII. Many of the photographs were taken between 1944 and 1945. Mr. Ives inherited the photographs from a friend from Marblehead, Massachusetts who served as an aviator in the Army Air Corps and discharged as a Major in 1945.
