The ceremony took place shortly after Gen. De Gaulle arrived in Washington for a three-day state visit with President Truman. After stepping from the transport plane in which he made the journey, Gen. De Gaulle said: "In the great task of organizing the world for peace, the U.S. will have to play a leading part".The French leader added: "It is the earnest desire of France to unite her efforts with yours in a spirit of confidence and friendship."Photo through U.
