Description: 

"File no: 3327-14. For Release: 9 P.M. Thursday, 17 May 1945. Inferno at Sea-- USS Franklin's trial by fire. A crown of flame mantles one of the five-inch gun mounts on the Franklin, with jets of fie flickering out of the muzzles of the twin cannon. Crewmen aboard the cruiser Santa Fe extinguished the blaze by playing streams of water through the open hatch." Off the Ryukyu Islands. 19 March 1945
