Official Caption: "Rome, 6/4/45--Liberated Foochow--This is a view of the port city of Foochow, on the southeast coast of China, which was liberated from the Japanese by Chinese troops on May 17, 1945, after a week's battle for the port. The Chinese troops had been driven out of the city earlier in the week by the Japanese who had occupied Foochow since October, 1944. The city, main seaport of Fukien Province, lies midway between Shanghai and Hong Kong and 150 miles (240 KM) west of the northern tip of Formosa.--PME photo--Serviced by Rome OWI (A list out).
