451.Photograph. Chance Vought F4U Corsair ' File Number: TR-12926 Feb. 27, 1945 Lethal Line-Up One of the finest fighters to be developed in World War Two is the U. S. Navy's Vought Corsair. Up to December 27, 1944 when two Marine squadrons were ordered aboard one of our Navy's carriers, the inverted gull-winged F4U fighters were land-based. This photograph shows eight of the breed being spotted and serviced on the flight deck of their new home.' 27 February 1945

The Charles Ives Collection consists of 719 photographs from the Pacific Theater of WWII. Many of the photographs were taken between 1944 and 1945. Mr. Ives inherited the photographs from a friend from Marblehead, Massachusetts who served as an aviator in the Army Air Corps and discharged as a Major in 1945.
