188.Photograph. '7 Dec 44. 5/MM-44-31176. Fifth Army, Viareggio, Italy. Canal, Darsena Vecchia which served as a refueling passage for enemy submarines and was destroyed by allied bombing. It empties in harbor basin deep enough to service ships up to 15,000 tons. The canal was an artery for material which was required in rail shops and maintenance plants.
