American soldier sits in ruins of the destroyed city of Civitavecchia, Italy only water tower bearing the city's name standing. '"CIVITAVECCHIA". It was a blown up mess but the 3rd Armared [Armored] needed gas and we got the job of off loading it at this place. The engineers had a job before we could move.' 1944
