Description:

Photograph. Coast Guardsmen struggling to unbeach a marooned transport barge. Official caption on reverse: "3170. From: Public Relations Division / U.S. Coast Guard / Washington, D.C. Official U.S. Coast Guard Photo. RESCUING AN INVASION BARGE. Using the seamanship which became traditional with the U.S. Coast Guard through generations of experience on American shores, Coast Guardsmen endeavor to free an invasion barge caught fast on the beach at Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville. Surf whipped the barge around, but it did not tip. Handling invasion barges in strange waters requires veteran seamanship." Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville Islands. No date
