Description:
Anti-aircraft fire or flak over Italy, 1943. 'The photos below were among those I was able to salvage and bring home. Thses [sic] photos show the anti-aircraft fire the bombers flew thru on their missions. From the ground we watched such flights and sadly witnessed an aircraft being hit which made a red fire blll [sic] in the midts [sic] of a group of planes. Sometimes the sky was just plain DARK with heavy numbers of planes flying over, particularly at Casino and Anzio.' Italy. [1943]
