Official Caption: "Rome, 6/25/45--U.S. Ships in Philippines--American cargo ships throng the harbor of Cebu City, second largest Philippines city and capital of Cebu Island. The vessels unload food, supplies and ammunition from the U.S. for American forces in the Pacific war. U.S. President Harry S. Truman emphasized the magnitude of the shipping problem when he told Congress: 'All of our campaigns in Europe and in the Pacific have depended on long lines of communications and upon quantities of supply unheard of in prior warfare. . . shifting our ground and air strength from Europe to the Far East presents transportation problems even greater and more complicated than those involved in the initial deployment of our forces to all parts of the world. Millions of men and millions of tons of supplies must be moved half way around the globe.'--Army photo through Rome OWI--Approved by appropriate military authority--( A list out) 6857."
